The Municipal Directorate of the Department of Food and Agriculture in Bibiani has taken delivery of six thousand (6,000) coconut seedlings for onward distribution to farmers.
On Monday, 1st August, 2022 the gesture was received from Food Advancement Ghana, an Agency of Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD).
The Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme is a decentralized National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve household incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support and regulatory mechanisms.
To create a legacy towards the realization of the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda, the government of Ghana through the joint effort by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture rolled out the PERD programme to develop nine (9) commodity value chains namely: coffee, cashew, cotton, coconut, citrus, oil palm, mango, rubber and shea.
According to Mr. Augustine Amaning Kwarteng, the Municipal Director of MoFA, the beneficiaries have already registered so those interested should take a cueue and follow suit.
