The Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) organized a two-day orientation and training workshop for Assembly Members, facilitated by Dr. Jerome Awortwi-Abba, Mr. Quaranchi Adama-Tettey, and Mrs. Bernice Kafui Akpedomee.
The workshop aimed to equip Assembly Members with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively fulfill their roles in local governance. Participants were introduced to the local governance system, its challenges, and opportunities, as well as their specific responsibilities. The training emphasized leadership development, focusing on the emerging roles of Assembly Members in promoting local development.
Key areas of focus included enhancing participants’ competencies in economic development, job creation, revenue mobilization, and fostering inclusive environments. The workshop also provided a platform for networking, sharing experiences, and discussing best practices for accelerating local development.
Additionally, it facilitated consensus-building on advancing Ghana’s decentralization program and driving forward key local governance reforms.
In their closing remarks, the MCE, Coordinating Director, and Presiding Member encouraged the Assembly Members to apply the knowledge gained from the training to strengthen good governance.
The meeting took place on 11th to 12th October, 2024. At the end of the meeting, Assembly Members received certificates recognizing their participation.
