Climate Change Vulnerability and Prioritization Workshop

On November 12th, 2024, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), held a Climate Change Vulnerability and Prioritization Workshop at Adu Addae Hotel. The event gathered 47 participants from diverse sectors, including agriculture, tourism, gender, health, disaster management, and water conservation, to assess and prioritize climate change adaptation strategies for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BABMA).
The workshop aimed to evaluate and prioritize previously identified climate adaptation measures using a Multi-Criteria Analysis. Participants assessed options based on factors such as effectiveness, affordability, feasibility, social acceptance, and gender responsiveness. Each sector group presented its top adaptation strategies, which were then ranked to create a prioritized list for inclusion in BABMA’s Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP).

A key takeaway from the workshop was the need for continuous monitoring of the adaptation strategies once implemented, as well as greater community involvement to ensure the success of the plan. Additionally, concerns were raised about the lack of mining sector representation, which is crucial given its impact on climate change.

In conclusion, the workshop provided a collaborative platform for stakeholders to shape a resilient, climate-adaptive future for the BABMA. The outcomes will inform strategic decision-making, strengthening the region’s ability to respond effectively to climate challenges.
