BIBIANI – ANHWIASO – BEKWAI MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY SUPPORTS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY (PWD)

The Bibiani Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly in the Western Region has on Monday, 25th June 2018, presented items worth GH¢113000.00 to the people with disabilities in the Municipality.

In all, about 83 people with various forms of disabilities including the visually & Hearing impaired, mentality deranged and the physically challenged, benefited from the support.

The beneficiaries received items ranging from Deep Freezers, Industrial Knitting Machines, Sewing Machines, Corn Mill Machines, ‘Aboboyaa’ Carpentry Tools, Hairdressing Products, Healthiest Work Tools & Materials, Gas Cylinders, Barbering Tools, Bakery Tools Materials, and Wheel Chairs among others.

Other supports includes payment of medical bills, school fees and financial support for petty – trading.

Presenting the items at a short ceremony at the Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alfred Amoah the Municipal Chief Executive said the items were procured from the Disability fund which was increased by the NPP Government from 2.5% to 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

The MCE said the fund was the accumulation of 4th quarter, of 2016 and 1st, 2nd & 3rd quarter of 2017, saying records show that was the highest presentation so far since the inception of the Fund.

He also said this year’s presentation was different from where cash were the previous years disabused to beneficiaries most of whom did not use the fund for the intended purposes.

The MCE subsequently advised the beneficiaries to take good care of the items and to use them to improve their lots.

The president of the federation of the disabled, Mr. Isaac K. Kyere, on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Government and the Municipal Assembly for the support. He believes the support would go a long way to reduce poverty among their members.
